Dr. Liisa Rasanen has been a trapper for Feline Friends for
the past four years. She has maintained a colony at the Cultural
Center, feeding, nurturing and caring for the feral cats.
She helped with the trap, neuter and release program, which
wasn’t always easy for her, as she did not own a car.
Carrying traps to and from the vets via taxi was an arduous
task. She devised a fabulous trap cover, so that the taxi
drivers were not aware of what type of cargo they were carrying.
Often Dr. Liisa found tame cats that were cruelly dumped
at the Cultural Center. She fostered them until they were
well; sterilized and vaccinated them and then gave them to
the Homing and Fostering department for re-homing. Ninni,
Otto, Emma, Alma, Victor, and Wili all found great homes thanks
to Dr. Liisa’s loving care. Victor in particular found
the best home of all, with Dr. Liisa, who took him home to
Finland over the summer and gave him the best freedom any
cat could want. To quote Dr. Liisa, “Victor practically
sang with glee when he went outside and experienced his first
grass.” (Victor had been raised in a small apartment
in Abu Dhabi).
Dr. Liisa is ready to go home to Finland for good. Victor
and his two other cat friends, also exported from the UAE
over the years are waiting for her at home.
We
will miss you Dr. Liisa, many thanks from all of us at Feline
Friends, for all that you have done.
